3 Sets You Should Add to Your Hulaween Schedule
The Spirit of Suwannee Music Park in Live Oak, FL will be coming to life for Hulaween’s 6th rendition on October 26th- 28th, 2018. This mystical forest is 800 acres of Spanish moss where every installation, mural, artwork and performance has been strategically placed to awaken the magic in the forest. Hulaween offers meditation, dance, flow and yoga classes that you can attend each day. These workshops are led by teachers from all over that are looking to share their passion. With 3 days, 20,000 attendees and acts like Janelle Monáe, The Revivalists, Rezz, Stephen Marley, and Bishop Briggs- there’s something exciting for everyone to check out. Don’t forget to wear your best Halloween costume or top 3 for each day to participate in the festivities!
The full lineup has been released and features 3 days of The String Cheese Incident. An amazing jam band that will take you back with their incredible covers from the best classic rock hits and more. Their very own keyboardist, Kyle Hollingsworth is a known home brewer and he’s up for another year of “Kyle’s Craft Beer Corner,” where he’ll feature his own brews, tastings, jam sessions and a panel of guest speakers. As a beer lover, I am so excited to finally check this out!
If you can get Thursday off and make it to the “Official Pre-Party,” you’ll be indulging in intimate sets by STS9, Lettuce, The Floozies, Papadosio and a few others! This year is nothing short of diversity in terms of a lineup. There’s rap, reggae, dance, r&b, progressive electronic music and so much more. Check out my top 3 must see acts this year:
Are you ready for a giant dance party? That’s what the atmosphere will be like when Jamiroquai is playing. This jazzy funk band got together in the 90’s and has since explored many genres to create their funky sounds. A blend of 80’s disco shines through along with dance and pop inspirations. Fun fact: they hold two Guinness World Records- one of them for the “fastest ever performance on an aeroplane!”
Founded in 2011, Soulection is more than just a label. It’s a mixture of artists experimenting through progressive music with a radio show as their platform. Co-founder and producer Joe Kay, SOSUPERSAM, j.robb, and The Whooligan will be performing at Hula this year with a 4 hour back to back set on Saturday! Inspired by artists like “Dilla, Flying Lotus, Madlib, MF Doom and Sade.” The atmosphere that they bring can’t compare to any collection of artists worldwide. With each of them bringing something different to the table, I’m stoked to finally see what they create live on stage.
Indie-pop duo from Los Angeles, California, Slenderbodies is another must see! They released their debut album “Sotto Voce” in 2016 which took them a month to produce and record. Followed by their EP, Fabulist which was released in 2017 and is a wonderful melodic collection of songs that will take you on a journey with a tender and soothing voice leading the way. With a few singles released since, I’m eager to hear their new EP “Soraya,” which is still in the works. Since the beginning of their journey, they’ve toured alongside Passion Pit, Mura Masa and now Milky Chance. If you’re into the atmospheric dreamy sounds, don’t miss this set! I’m crossing my fingers for a taste of an unreleased track.
