Burger Boogaloo 2018 Hosted by John Waters Returns to Oakland!

Fellow freaks and geeks, it’s finally that time of year for the annual Burger Boogaloo Festival! Every year, many wonder how Burger Records will top the lineup of the year before but they do every time and Burger Boogaloo truly just keeps getting better and better. This groovy shindig returns back to it’s familiar grounds at Mosswood Park in Oakland June 30th and July 1st.

And it wouldn’t be a Burger Boogaloo without the hostess with the mostest running the show for the fourth year in a row, John Waters! For those who have been living under a rock and have crawled out from under it to read this article, John Waters is a cult film director, comedian, artist, screenwriter, and a man possibly too precious and talented for this world. Waters is a big deal; he’s directed cult-classics like Pink Flamingos, Hairspray (1988), and Cry-Baby, the 1950’s-style teen romance starring Johnny Depp.

Throughout the years of the Burger Boogaloo festivals, they’ve become known for bringing together the most legendary acts from all decades and generations. The festival has consisted of some heavy names and pioneers of punk like Iggy Pop, Buzzcocks, X, and this year The Damned. Lineups have also included some of the soon-to-be legends of garage-rock like, The Black Lips, King Khan & the Shrines, The Coathangers, and Thee Oh Sees. Another legendary act are The Mummies, who have performed at the festival in 2015 and 2016 and the fact that these funk punks are returning again this year is a clear indication that they’re obviously badass. These guys are a huge favorite for festival goers and an act you should make sure not to miss because not only are The Mummies an OG garage-punk band that formed in 1988 but yes, they are actual mummies!

Burger Boogaloo also seems to be a great time for rare performances and priceless reunions. DEVO hasn’t played a show in about 3 years, so all that saved energy will be sure to deliver one of the best performances you’ll see that weekend. Performing for the first time in 5 years will be Traditional Fools, Ty Segall’s punk project he started before embarking on his successful solo career. Traditional Fools is a delicious slice of raw garage surf-punk whose sound is straight out of a 60’s punk show and I’m sure their live performance will also reflect that.

Another important comeback and definite must-see this year is Hunx & His Punx! After all those sad lonely nights thinking we may never see them ever again, Hunx & His Punx will FINALLY be drying our tears with a reunion this year! On top of all that, electro punk band Le Shock will also be regrouping this year for the first time in 15 years!

With all these reunions and extraordinary performances, it’ll be extremely difficult not to get FOMO if you pass up on this festival. Visit this handy festival website for tickets and FAQs! Check out the full lineup below and come boogie with us and get your buns to Burger Boogaloo!
