Fred Armisen: Comedy For Musicians But Everyone Is Welcome Tour in Orange County
Fred Armisen hosted his tour, ‘Comedy For Musicians But Everyone Is Welcome’ in Southern California. He performed a sold-out show at the Observatory Orange County on Tuesday, September 16th. Audience members were dressed up as their favorite Fred Armisen characters. He performed music around the world by celebrating and performing impersonations of music from various countries such as Italy, Australia, and more! He also performed the History of Punk by performing punk music from every decade. He performed the songs on the drums. He spoke about influential songs by The Cramps, New Order, and more!
Fred Armisen also demonstrated instruments such as an black symbol from Zildjian which he shared had a dark sound. He also displayed weird instruments and props. For example, he tied a chord to the maracas. He mentioned that he centered his comedy show around props. His prop artist was in the audience, and she created the props such as the monster, drum gloves, and the graphics. Another comedy skit he featured was a text exchanged he had about flags with Steve Albini where they discussed flags from different countries. Armisen also conducted a sketch of portraying himself in an art film by sitting in the corner with a high beam shining on him.
Fred Armisen conducted a ‘Q and A’ where he picked audience members to ask questions. An audience member asked, ‘What was your favorite role or character?’ He shared the goth characters he portrayed on Portlandia were the closest to his personality. Another audience member asked ‘Where did the ideas of his characters originate from such as Uncle Fester?’ He shared while he is driving he thinks about his characters.
An audience member asked ‘What was his favorite guest appearance on as show?’ Armisen shared that his favorite cameo was ‘Brooklyn 99.’ An audience member asked for one more episode of Portlandia. An audience member asked ‘How did he get to the venue?’ and he joked that he knew where he was going with the question and then he performed an impersonation of the voice of the Californians. The Orange County audience thoroughly enjoyed the comedy show and interacting with Fred Armisen.
