One More For The Kids! Jeff Rosenstock and Anika Pyle’s Benefit Show For the Educated Little Monsters

After a last minute headliner reveal, Jeff Rosenstock and Anika Pyle played a packed, not-so silent show at Silent Barn in Brooklyn to benefit the Educated Little Monsters, a group comprised of local youth of color who learned how to play instruments from music teachers at the space. The iconic venue is slated to close by early May of this year, so the show was one of the last parties to occur there. Silent Barn meant a whole lot not just to the community but to both Jeff Rosenstock and Anika Pyle as they have seen shows and played in the current and previous locations numerous times. While both played acoustic sets, it was just as punk as any plugged-in show.

“Isn’t it nice to find a place that you can be comfortable…” Relevant words sung by Anika Pyle, who kicked the night off. She played a sweet yet somber set, almost entirely made up of new songs with an old Chumped song thrown in, to an engaged group. “It’s nice to see such an attentive crowd.” she said finishing up a song. In a digital era, it was surprising to see that there were very few phones out throughout the night. If you haven’t heard of her or her bands, Chumped and Katie Ellen, you should. Katie Ellen’s debut album, Cowgirl Blues, is out now on Lauren Records.

Jeff Rosenstock made this acoustic show almost as boisterous as a full band effort with the help an enthusiastic crowd. The whole room sang along to every song at the top of their lungs and filled in on backing vocals as they saw fit. The setlist included some very old songs, cover songs, and newer songs from both Worry and Post-  to make for one memorable show for new and old fans alike.
