Pierce the Veil’s I Can’t Hear You World Tour Hits West Palm Beach

The sun had just begun to set as the doors opened at 5pm on October 30th for Pierce the Veil’s I Can’t Hear You tour stop in West Palm Beach. Face-painted fans and costumed concertgoers filled the venue and rushed to the merch stands. It was a stacked lineup featuring rising, genre-defying acts that set the stage for the headliners.

Like Roses kicked the evening off with a short, but energetic 20-minute set. The female-led emo, pop-punk band from Berkeley, California features vocalist Amy Schmalkuche, Devin Zamora on lead guitar, Kayla Gonzalez on bass, and Aaron Seminoff on drums. Their style is edgy and raw, with powerful, punching lyrics. It was a sound rooted in the early 2000’s emo revival as they performed their top tracks like “Stuck” and “Broken Things (Lie To Me)”.

The next performance was by Ecca Vandal. A South-African, Australian singer-songwriter and rapper with colorful hair, a gritty voice and a captivating grasp. She made her debut in 2015 with “Father Hu$$la” and her first studio album “Ecca Vandal” was released in 2017. Her ability to dominate a stage, effortlessly blend genres with an unapologetic authenticity is palpable. Her music blends punk, indie, alternative, and hip-hop energy into sounds, pulsing with electronic textures and sometimes flashes of her Sri Lankan heritage.

By 8pm, HEALTH took the stage and shifted the atmosphere. The Los Angeles noise-rock trio is known for blending industrial textures with eerie melodic undertones, and their set was a full sensory experience. Dark synths and pounding drums pulsed through strobe lights and wavey visuals with tracks like “Ordinary Loss” and “Feel Nothing”.

At 9:15 p.m., the lights dimmed and “El Rey” by José Alfredo Jiménez played over the speakers as the crowd eagerly sang along to the chorus. Moments later, the venue erupted as the curtains dropped and Pierce the Veil stormed the stage to the opening notes of “Death of an Executioner” from their 2023 album The Jaws of Life.

Hailing from San Diego, California, Pierce the Veil formed in 2006 and have spent nearly two decades shaping post-hardcore’s evolution while refining a chemistry that seems to have never wavered. Their recent resurgence has brought them to bigger stages and wider audiences, all while staying true to the raw emotion and sound that defined their early years.
