Portugal.the Man's 'DENALI' tour at The Glass House Pomona
PORTUGAL.THE MAN
Indie Rock group, Portugal. The Man,’ are currently on their North American Tour. They performed at the Glass House in Pomona, California on Saturday, November 15th and the Wiltern on Sunday, November 16th in Los Angeles, California. The group’s co-founder John Gourley originally formed the group in Alaska. Currently Gourley and his wife, fellow band-member, Zoe Manville, are currently based in Portland, Oregon. The theme of their tour is ‘Support Local Crews and Workers,’ and ‘Denali,’ which is a single off their latest album, ‘Shish.’ Their tenth studio album, ‘Shish,’ was released on November 7th and references their roots in Alaska.
The album cover art for ‘Shish,’ features a photograph of Shishmaref, Alaska. During the tour stop at the Glass House, Ya Tseen opened for the group. Portugal.the Man performed next on a dark lit stage surrounded by dedicated fans. The show featured various artists such as Liv Slingerland, David Marion, and Hanni El Khatib. The group performed an array of new songs from their latest album, ‘Shish,’ such as ‘Denali,’ ‘Pittman Ralliers,’ ‘Knik,’ ‘Shish,’ ‘Mush,’ and more! In addition, the group performed many fan favorites such as ‘Purple Yellow Red and Blue,’ ‘Feel It Still,’ ‘Modern Jesus,’ ‘Feel It Still,’ and ‘Live in the Moment.’ The group ended the show by welcoming unto the stage, artists David Marion on vocals and Hanni El Khatib on guitar for the encore of their song, ‘Father Gun.’
Gourley and Manville created a foundation, CURE DHDDS USA, to promote awareness and support families and children navigating rare diseases. This foundation was inspired by their daughter, Frances, who was diagnosed with a rare disease, DHDDS.
