Women Crush Music: Bad Cop Bad Cop

In this feature we’ll be talking about the awesome So Cal all girl punk band Bad Cop/Bad Cop! BC/BC members include Myra Gallarza on drums, Stacey Dee on guitar and vocals, Linh Le on bass and vocals and Jennie Cotterill on guitar and vocals. BC/BC has been around since 2011 and is Fat Wreck Cords recording artist, whose latest album Warriors dropped this past June.

My first go around with BC/BC was when they were touring with The Interrupters and playing a club here in Jersey called the Brighton Bar. The Brighton is a dark, dirty iconic Jersey punk club where the who’s who of scene have all played. Like others in attendance I was there to see the Interrupters and had no idea who BC/BC even was, but that was about to change! BC/BC took the stage and within minutes you could see that look on everyone faces, like who the fuck is this, they killed it! Fast forward to the Interrupters (who also killed it) who had the last song of their set abruptly ended, and the club cleared out by some dick who thought it was a good idea to blast someone with pepper spray. In Jersey fashion this show ended with a club clearing brawl, someone getting knocked out like they were dead, the cops and Aimee Allen doing the last song of the set from the sidewalk outside.

This past July I had the pleasure of photographing the Jersey leg of Van’s Warped Tour that included a set by BC/BC, for me was the best part of the entire show. BC/BC is a hard working legit punk band that has had their fair share of struggles, and in my opinion are better than ever. Their music tells a tale of personal hardship and recovery as well as rage and anger over our current political situation. I love their music and hope they keep at it for a long time. Here’s to BC/BC, “Girls Who Rock.”
