When Rhye began releasing videos - exquisite, sexy, mysterious....
From New York Times: "The music held its own mystery. The songs were a seductive blend of electronic pop, cocktail jazz and Quiet Storm soul, far plusher and sultrier than the sounds normally championed in the indie-rock blogosphere, with startlingly openhearted lyrics about love and sex. What really seized listeners’ imaginations was the singer’s voice — a contralto croon, cool on the top end, warm and radiant on the bottom, smoky around the edges and, in many songs, a dead ringer for the British-Nigerian superstar Sade. The singing, like Sade’s, was sexy and vulnerable but remote, with an accent that couldn’t be pinned down."
Now the LA-based Danish-Canadian duo has begun to venture publicly, playing with a live band at major festivals including the 2016 Coachella and David Lynch's highly anticipated upcoming's Festival of Disruption. And yes, the singer is no girl, no woman - the core members are both male, exploring soft sensual neo-soul.
Presented by The Rhythm Foundation.
