The Rhythm Arts Poetry (“RAP”) Festival is the celebration of the completion of an eight-week long poetry program for Opa Locka middle schoolers led by Shameka “Poetry” Thomas and commissioned by O, Miami. The Rhythm & Arts Poetry Production (RAPP) is a pilot poet-in-residence project with Shameka “Poetry” Thomas, North Dade Middle School “Expressive Art” students, O,Miami, and the Opa-locka Community Development Corporation (OLCDC). The production will culminate with a showcase of the students’ original poetry, spoken word, and literary works as exciting performance pieces for the general public, as part of O, Miami’s annual poetry festival in April.
