Infamously known for their immersive playgrounds at festivals like Suwannee Hulaween and Okeechobee Music & Arts Festival, Lost Creations took us down the rabbit hole once again Friday night for their very own, first ever riveting celebration of music & art with bizarre performances and entertainers full of shenanigans. Hosted by Paper Crane in the heart of St. Pete’s blooming arts district, The Lost Ball sold out the performance arts & event venue May 4th having only announced it 2 weeks prior. With an entirely local lineup of musicians like Fr33dback, Geri X, Mountain Holler, J.T. Brown, and special performances by Aerial Dragons, Adriana Sparkle, Rob “Bearsnake” & friends, Lost Creations put on an eclectic night of sights & sounds only to be experienced by those who knew to reserve their tickets quickly for a special evening not to be missed.
After weeks of mild temperatures, the summer heat finally made an appearance in Houston this weekend and so too, did the inaugural installation of JMBLYA Houston. Though the festival has been in existence for several years, 2018 marks its first installation in Houston and hopefully not its last. This hip-hop centric festival brought together some of the hottest names of 2017 and 2018, even in light of two critical, last-minute cancellations by both Cardi B, due to her pregnancy, and Kevin Gates, due to legal concerns.
Live music, sunshine, and beach vibes rejuvenated festival goers at Back to the Beach Music Festival. The impressive event was curated by The World Famous KROQ,Travis Barker, and John Feldman of Goldfinger and collaborators of many more bands! The event hosted renowned artists on the relaxing landscape of Huntington Beach, California. The scenic festival featured an array of modern ska, punk, and reggae music that satisfied the tastes of eager and ecstatic participants. Audiences flocked to the main stage for a prime spot to catch performances by The Mighty Mighty Bosstones, 311, Sublime With Rome, Goldfinger, Save Ferris, The Interrupters, and more! Orange County embraced Back to the Beach with open arms as the festival promoted Ska music and the location of its' fruition in the area.
The relationship between music and marijuana has a profound history that has shaped the course of music throughout the past century. Central and Southern American sailors were introduced to marijuana by the Hindu immigrants in the West Indies. After their discovery, these sailors brought that ganja over to the shores of the birthplace of jazz, New Orleans and it’s been lit ever since. Around the same time of the introduction to marijuana, jazz music skyrocketed in popularity.
Living along the coast, beach and bay clean-ups are a part of the norm. Sporadically throughout the year groups like Surfrider mobilize locals to help clean and preserve areas that are at the most risk to pollution. In the past month, the organization's two New Jersey chapters put together a handful of clean-up all along the coast. This past weekend was Surfrider South Jersey’s monthly clean-up along the bay just south of Atlantic City in Vetnor.
When people think of surfing and surf art it’s not often that the Jersey shore comes up first. However, in recent years there has been a rise in local pro surfers, board shapers, and artists in the scene. At Trident Arts in Long Branch, the Castles Made of Sand art show proved that Jersey artists can be contenders to Californian or Hawaiian artists. The exhibit featured handmade surfboard bags by Davie Sincox, mixed-media art from Chris Blackwell and Scott Szegeski, woodworking art from Ben McBrien and Patrick Dean, paintings from Christopher Smith and Erik Schmidt, and a feature viewing of Through the Looking Glass, a pivotal east coast surf film, by local director and artist Robert Gilanyi as well as locally crafted and innovative surfboards from Johnny Borbone.

For the sixth year in a row, MoPop will be hosting their festival in the heart of Detroit Michigan. The announcement of their 2018 lineup of the festival happening at West Riverfront Park on July 28th & 29th certainly does not disappoint.
After countless weather issues, ranging from delays and relocations to all-out cancellations, the team behind Free Press Summer Fest made the admirable decision in 2017 to scrap the summertime festival and introduce In Bloom Music Festival to the city of Houston this past weekend. Likely referencing the festival’s new time frame in the month of March, it also seems that the creators may be paying homage to Nirvana’s widely popular tune, “In Bloom.”

Thousands upon thousands of people gathered in the streets of Five Points in Columbia, SC -wearing green, drinking beers and listening to good music to celebrate St. Patty’s day! The day was filled with races, parades, silent disco dance parties, a variety of bands, lots of good beer and of course the luck o’ the Irish. This year was the 36th annual St. Patty’s fest to take place in Five Points!
Four years firing up and Florida’s premier, annual reggae festival returns bigger than ever at St. Petersburg’s Vinoy Park this past St. Patrick’s Day weekend sporting a different strain of green. Welcoming back major national reggae acts like headliners Rebelution, Damian “Jr. Gong” Marley, & SOJA, who are well familiar with the great sunset vibes of the Tampa Bay Area’s reggae scene, as well as crowd favorites Tribal Seeds, The Expendables, Collie Buddz, J. Boog, Ozomatli, and NAHKO & Medicine for the People
This year the United States Intercollegiate Boxing Nationals (USIBA) were hosted at the University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign. It was an intense 3-day event with lots of fights, awards for the best boxers, trophies and, of course, plenty of championship belts.
Gasparilla Music Festival obliterated expectations and past lineups from previous years, the funk, passion, and soul were all unleashed and spilling throughout downtown Tampa March 10-11th. The acts that stole our hearts this year were KOLARS, The Young Something, Johnny Mile & The Kilometers, The Roots, War Paint, The Underhill Family Orchestra, Ella Jet, Father John Misty, Brother Cephus, and Spoons just to name a few!
On Saturday March 10 the Dropkick Murphys brought their raucous variety of Celtic punk rock to Washington D.C’s newest concert venue The Anthem, playing before a capacity crowd of 6,000 rowdy fans. Also, on tonight’s ticket the New York based Hardcore Specialist Agnostic Front and the Boston Based Ska outfit Bim Skala Bim.
Buku Music + Art Project returned to Mardi Gras World, New Orleans this past weekend and brought with it a powerful lineup of musical artists, delectable local vendors, plenty of adult beverages, and an insane number of lasers.
Eli Marc Mueller is a seamlessly exquisite visual and conceptual artist when it comes to creating his various abstract and surrealist forms through painting, illustration, installation, and mixed media. His range is vast; working with a wide range of media, photography, illustration, graphic design, video, and painting. The same themes and subjects matter appear consistently throughout this work, whether or not he is collaging images, using ink on paper, acrylic on canvas, video, or installation just to name a few.
Making a strong comeback, Wolf Parade and opening act Charly Bliss were welcomed by a warm crowd in Los Angeles at the Fonda Theater on January 19th and 20th. After taking a lengthy hiatus in 2011, Wolf Parade has returned to fans with tons of tour dates to choose from and their new highly anticipated album, ‘Cry, Cry, Cry’. The Fonda Theater was packed of restless fans that haven’t heard from Wolf Parade in years, and as a result generated an excitable and slightly impatient atmosphere before their set. Impatient or not, the audience still didn’t hesitate to enjoy the power-pop anthems of Charly Bliss. Although their bubbly sound differs from Wolf Parade’s darker moods, Charly Bliss had everyone pumped-up and moving to their jaunty jams.
A Reggae concert was all Charleston needed to kick off these summer weather days in Charleston, South Carolina. This past Friday at Charleston Pour House, Roots of a Rebellion played a show with The Elamenno Beat and Seewater music. The night consisted of good vibes, personal connections and the crowd dancing all night long.
This past Saturday, Charleston Indie-rock band Stoplight Observations performed a headlining, sold-out concert at Charleston Music Hall. The lineup for the night also included two other local bands: Rare Creatures and SondorBlue. The venue quickly filled up and there was a large crowd front and center standing against the stage shortly after doors opened. Having three local bands headline a show at this beautiful venue, everyone knew it would be fantastic, but we were all blown away by the performances of these talented musicians.
Snarky Puppy brought back the funk at GroundUp Music Festival’s second year in Miami, featuring international jazz and eclectic artists, delicious food options, and craft beer to compliment the cool tropical weather that only Miami Beach in February can offer.
