Sea Wolf Celebrates 'Old World Romance' Reissue with Intimate California Performances
Fans in California were treated to two memorable evenings as Indie Folk singer-songwriter, Sea Wolf, brought its ‘Old World Romance’ anniversary along with Emory Duncan, on tour to San Francisco and Los Angeles at the Moroccan Lounge. Celebrating the re-release of the beloved 2012 album—now available once again on vinyl—the performances blended nostalgia, storytelling, and an intimate atmosphere that has defined the band's live shows.
Opening each evening was singer-songwriter, Emory Duncan, whose warm stage presence quickly connected with audiences. Duncan shared that he is originally from Los Angeles, where he also met his wife. The couple now lives in a cabin tucked away in the Santa Cruz Mountains, a peaceful setting that inspires much of his songwriting and creative process.
Throughout his set, Duncan delivered a collection of thoughtful originals while also performing a moving rendition of Josh Ritter's "Only a River." Before concluding, he expressed sincere gratitude to everyone who attended, acknowledging the challenges many people face with today's rising cost of living and the uncertainty in the world. His appreciation for the audience's support resonated throughout the venue and drew enthusiastic applause.
Following Duncan's performance, Sea Wolf took the stage to perform ‘Old World Romance’ album in its entirety, giving longtime fans the rare opportunity to experience the album live from beginning to end. Frontman and songwriter, Alex Church, was joined by bandmate Lisa Fendelander on keyboards, creating the rich, atmospheric sound that has become synonymous with Sea Wolf's music.
In addition to the album performance, the group delighted the crowd with several fan favorites, including "You're a Wolf," "Wicked Blood," and "The Violet Hour." The entire show was improvised without a setlist. Throughout the night, audience members sang along to nearly every lyric, danced between the rows, and applauded enthusiastically after each song, creating an unmistakable sense of community between the band and its fans.
One of the evening's lighter moments came when Church transitioned into an acoustic performance and briefly joked that he was having a "Bob Dylan moment," drawing laughter from the audience before seamlessly continuing the set.
The connection between artist and audience extended well beyond the final encore. After the show, Church greeted fans who patiently lined up throughout the venue to purchase merchandise, sign vinyl records, and share a few moments of conversation. The personal interactions served as a fitting conclusion to an evening centered on appreciation both for an album that continues to resonate more than a decade after its release and for the loyal fans who have supported Sea Wolf throughout the years. The California tour stops offered more than a celebration of ‘Old World Romance’'s return to vinyl. They were a reminder that, even in an era of constant change, heartfelt songwriting and genuine artist-fan connections remain timeless.
