The Head and the Heart's Southern California 'Aperture' tour finale at San Diego's Gallagher Square

The Head and the Heart

Seattle Indie Rock group, The Head and the Heart, made their last stop on their Southern California tour at Gallagher Square in San Diego, California. The group have been touring with their latest album release, ‘Aperture.’ They mentioned that they left the best for last and were extremely grateful to be performing in San Diego. Music artist, Charity Rose Thielen, commented the venue had the coolest green room that the group had ever been in. The green room was located on the field in Petco Park, where the San Diego Padres play.

Band member, Jonathan Russell, introduced the song ‘Cop Car,’ a song that the group wanted to leave as a mystery for the listener. The group performed new songs, classic tracks, and deep cuts. For example, they performed a deep-cut track that they had wrote in 2010 and had on performed live once on an iTunes session. Band member, Matt Gervais, shared that they released their new album, ‘Aperture,’ in May 2026 and that the group enjoys listening to their fans singing along to their contemporary songs. Matt Gervais also performed an intimate piano version of their track, ‘Beg, Steal, Borrow.’

The concert highlighted each band members unique talents such as the high vocal range by Charity Rose Thielen and her exquisite performance on the synthesizer keys and violin. Jonathan Russell performed dynamic singing along with powerful guitar strumming. Matt Gervais’ engaging presence enticed the audience while he alternated from performing different instruments such as guitar and piano. The group took song requests from the audience, a patron shouted, ‘Rivers and Roads,’ and Russell playfully said ‘Not yet.’ The group did save the best for last and honored the audience member’s request and performed ‘Rivers and Roads,’ at the end of their concert. During the encore of the show, Matt Gervais went into the crowd and performed alongside concertgoers, which concertgoers danced along and even held a dance battle.
