Dreaming about the DREAMERS’ Show at the Troubadour

The rock trio DREAMERS successfully concluded their first headline tour. With their positive message stating that basically “nothing is impossible,”  they entertained fans through their pop-rock songs, highlighting the ones from their latest EP release, FLY. After slowing it down with an almost fully acoustic version of “Come Down Slow,” they brought the energy back up with a cover of The Smashing Pumpkins’ “Bullet with Butterfly Wings.” DREAMERS played an incredible show, and clearly every member of the (surprisingly) diversely aged crowd enjoyed it.

Their storytelling music videos catches the viewer's attention with contrasting rhythms from dreamlike vocals to heavy instrumentals. The ethereal track, "Heaven Hell Anywhere Else," enraptures listeners with elevating melodies and intense percussion. This daydreaming track was the first single off of their debut album, "Death Lust." The album was released on July 13th on Captured Tracks. Their hefty track, "Children" is reminiscent of 90's Alternative Rock accompanied by a chilling tale depicted in their music video of young angst. The Glam Skanks, LA based band, hit Vegas with their bombastic beats and colorful glittery vibes.  An all girl band formed in 2013, Veronica, Vanessa, Millie and Cassie performed songs from their self titled album Glam Skanks and also their latest album Glitter City.  They brought high energy, killer guitar riffs, thumping bass and drums had the crowd jumping and dancing at the Pearl Concert venue inside the Palms Hotel and Casino.  With an edgy punky attitude combined with a serious rock influence, this band really showed Vegas a great night!  Can't wait for their return!

Mikaela Davis is a singer/songwriter from New York who will be releasing her debut album July 13, 2018, under Folk label, Rounder Records. Usually, when a classical trained musician finishes music school they go on and join orchestras and become teachers, but in Mikaela Davis’s case she went on and became a songwriter. After attending music school as a harpist, Mikaela Davis chose an uncommon path for classical music majors and opted for becoming a solo artist and songwriter outside of the realm of classical music. Her music could be labeled as “pop” but it is more complex than that. Besides spending time writing songs Davis also toured a bit supporting acts such as Bon Iver, San Fermin, and the Staves.

The Wombats, Weezer and the Pixies rock New Orleans’s Champion’s Square

The Pixies’ set proved they haven’t lost what they had in the 80’s and 90’s. Their performance was fantastic, high energy when needed and slow and sentimental at other times. Black Francis’s raspy on-stage banter and guitar solos were far from lacking, and they played a great mix of old Pixies and new Pixies. There wasn’t a dull moment of the set.

Punk rock and neo-psychedelia clash beautifully in the magical wizard-y ways of King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard.  The Australian seven piece band is an absolute riot, and their shows are as well. At their sold out show at the Republic New Orleans, moshing was not only allowed but very encouraged. Their set was filled with shreddy guitar riffs solos and high caliber drum beats, not a person in the venue wasn’t banging their head to the music.
