Blink-182 performed Hometown show at San Diego's Petco Park during One More Time Tour
Legendary Punk Rockers, Blink-182, are currently on touring throughout North America their latest album release, ‘One More Time.’ They performed Sunday, June 30th at Petco Park in San Diego, California, home of the Padres Sports Team. The venue was fully decorated with Blink-182 banners and merchandise in celebration for their long-awaited homecoming. Being San Diego natives, this was a hometown show for the artists who all grew up in the area. The band is originally from Poway located in San Diego County.
Also, the opening band, Pierce the Veil, who is currently on tour with Blink-182, are from San Diego. Lead Singer, Mark Hoppus, mentioned seeing his family and friends in the audience such as his wife’s cousin. Hoppus mentioned that this tour was not only to showcase their new album, but also to celebrate the group’s trials, tribulations, love, hate and more.
The musicians played songs that tied to their Punk Rock roots. Blink-182 kicked off their concert with the song, ‘Feeling This,’ which fans sang along to. They alternated from performing classic, new, rare, unreleased, and cover songs. Travis Barker played a dedicated drum song that he sang, which was heavy Punk Rock. Hoppus debuted the track, ‘Can’t Go Back,’ an unreleased song which he wrote three weeks ago which they were performing for the first time during this tour.
Blink-182’s concert was full of surprises from fireworks, fire blasts on stage, and a rotating stage. The group performed on a circular rotating stage which provided a unique 360 experience for music fans to view the band from different angles. The stage would rotate to the right, center, and the left-side of the arena, which allowed the musicians to perform directly in the point of view of the audience members throughout the stadium. Also, they surprised the audience when Travis Barker’s drum set was lifted up in the air during their set. Barker performed various drum solos while floating in the air on a suspended stage which added to the suspense of the show.
Along with spectacular surprises, Hoppus and DeLonge made the audience laugh during their set. They playfully teased each other on-stage and commented about their early experiences on tour such as the mischief DeLonge would get into. Also, they had a staff member who would bring them tuned guitars in between sets, which they joked resembled Jesus. Hoppus and DeLonge would point jokes at him when he would walk on stage with his long brown hair and beard.
As the show was coming to an end, Blink-182 introduced the encore of their set, which they performed a song from Tom DeLonge’s project, Angels & Airwaves. The group will continue their tour throughout the Summer of 2024. Their tour finale is on August 15th iat Rogers Centre in Toronto.
