Franz Ferdinand: Has Scottish Indie Rock Always Sounded This Good?

One would be hard pressed to find a music fan, or casual listener, alive during the early 2000s that didn’t hear and/or fall in love with the charismatic sound of Franz Ferdinand. Formed in 2002, the group released two singles “Dart’s of Pleasure” and “Take Me Out” which both received critical acclaim, though “Take Me Out” certainly seemed to be and remains the fan favorite from the group. Their debut, self-titled album, Franz Ferdinand, was released in 2004 and led the group to a Grammy nomination for Best Rock Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocal, a Grammy nomination for Best Alternative Album, and the Mercury Prize.

Following the smashing success, the group released their second album in 2005 and continued to rock fans across the globe. Since the early 2000s, the group has released Tonight: Franz Ferdinand, Blood: Franz Ferdinand, Right Thoughts, Right Words, Right Action in three to four-year bursts. Remaining consistent while continuing to innovate with their sound and compel their audience to stay loyal, the group remains as popular as ever with its 2018 release of the album Always Ascending.

Touring in promotion of their new album, the group has made significant rounds throughout this year and continues its tour, spanning the globe from Paris, France to Osaka, Japan among many other festivals and solo headline shows. Recently they came through Houston and put on an epic performance for a highly-energetic and diverse audience at Houston’s White Oak Music Hall.
