Ambrosia's celebrate birthdays and their first show after the pandemic at Gulfstream Park Casino

 

The Los Angeles Rock group, Ambrosia, performed their first set of live shows upon returning from the pandemic in Hallandale, Florida. They kicked off their tour at Sport of Kings Theater inside Gulfstream Park performing two sets in one night inside the intimate venue.

The band members flourished in the audience’s excitement throughout the show as adamant fans danced beside the stage and sang along to their favorite tracks. The audience was elated as Ambrosia performed hit tracks from their lengthy discography. They surprised the audience with a diverse set of top hits, underground tracks, mash-ups, and tracks from movie soundtracks. In eager anticipation of the next song performance, the audience cheered and applauded.

Music lovers were enthused by the experimental and hard rock nature of Ambrosia’s live performances infused with prog-rock tracks from their early albums. Along with their classic rock hits, the group performed live covers from the Beatles, Bruce Hornsby, Stevie Wonder, and more! Ambrosia surprised the audience with a theatrical performance for a track that they wrote for the 1970s film, ‘Arthur.’

During the show’s encore, the audience members stood and made their way to the front of the main stage to take pictures with the band members. The band also celebrated the birthday of their band member, the audience and the band sang ‘Happy Birthday’ together in celebration of the joyful and eventful show.

The group derived the meaning and symbolism of their band name from the word ‘Ambrosia’ which means a nectar of the gods. Originally forming in the South Bay of Southern California, the band later moved to the coastal region of San Pedro in Long Beach, California where they could to stay close to the neighboring Los Angeles music scene. They were influenced by the experimental music, buoyant vocals, and creative songwriting by iconic bands who were revolutionizing music at the time such as the Beatles, the Beach Boys, and Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young. Ambrosia was discovered in 1971 and featured in as a concert headliner by local Los Angeles Philharmonic conductor, Zubin Mehta.

The group developed their own musical style incorporating orchestral rock with melodic progressive rock also known as ‘prog-rock.’ Influenced by prog-rock innovators, King Crimson, after discovering them at a local show at the Whiskey a Go Go in Los Angeles, California. The band members left the concert mesmerized by the unique sound and style of ‘prog-rock.’ From their concert experience, the band incorporated a mixture of progressive and pop rock in their early albums such as 'Ambrosia’ in 1975, ‘Somewhere I've Never Travelled’ in 1976, and' ‘Life Beyond L.A.’ in 1978.
