Architects’ Holy Hell Tour: A Resilient Celebration of Life and Loss

ARCHITECTS

With a successful set of UK and EU performances already under their belt, the time was right for Brighton-based metalcore band, Architects, to hop across the pond and bring their much-anticipated Holy Hell Tour to fans across North America. And for the SoundBite Magazine team, this was a can’t-miss event.

Released in November 2018 via Epitaph Records, Holy Hell marked Architects’ 8th studio album and first full-length release since the passing of founding member and guitarist, Tom Searle. However, while these could be read as dark times, the determined quintet found a way to find light in the darkness.

Both a celebration of triumph over grief as well as a tribute to their late friend, Holy Hell is not only vibrant, but surprisingly filled with life. And for fans across the United States and Canada, experiencing the band’s message of hope through despair, via heavy riffs and a high-energy set seemed to provide an almost cathartic experience.

Throughout the night, Sam Carter (Vocals), Dan Searle (Drums), Alex Edwin Dean (Bass), Adam Christianson (Guitar), Josh Middleton (guitar), were met with resounding applause from the sold-out crowd at House of Blues Anaheim, who not only enjoyed, but appeared head-over-heels for the band’s new material. For whether it be the opening keys of “Hereafter” or the lyrical depth of “Doomsday” the entire audience appeared alive with energy, a sign of the vibrancy and resilience of a well-deserving group.

WHILE SHE SLEEPS

Opening the night for Architects, was fellow metalcore powerhouse, While She Sleeps. Consisting of Lawrence Taylor (vocals), Sean Long (guitar), Mat Welsh (guitar/vocals), Aaran Mckenzie (bass), and Adam Savage (Drums), these Sheffield natives captivated attendees with tracks off their 2019 album, So What?

A co-release with the band’s own label (Sleeps Brothers) and the popular, Spinefarm Records, While She Sleeps has managed to strike an ideal balance between production and their natural independent flair. Now, equipped with all the tools stemming from the promising partnership (coupled with clear talent and an invigorating live show), we expect nothing but continued growth from the fast-evolving quintet.

THY ART IS MURDER

Following While She Sleeps were deathcore classics, Thy Art is Murder. Hailing from Sydney, Australia, these fierce musicians have been making waves in the metal scene since their formation back in 2006. And with their fifth studio album, Human Target, set for release on July 27, fans were not only excited to see vocalist CJ McMahon, drummer Jesse Beahler, bassist Kevin Butler, and guitarists Sean Delander and Andy Marsh, tear up the stage, but sing and headbang along to the title track and more.
