Blink 182 and Lil Wayne Bring the 2000s to Summer 2019
Blink 182 and Lil Wayne have announced a North American Summer tour with Neck Deep opening. This unbelievably unlikely pairing of music acts brings together fans of Enema of the State and Tha Carter III, creating an inevitably interesting show. To celebrate this exciting tour, Blink 182 and Lil Wayne released a mashup of “What’s My Age Again?” and “A Milli”
Pop-punk band Neck Deep has opened for Blink 182 previously, but they are excited to do so again, as they regard Blink as one of their biggest inspirations. They have also collaborated with Mark Hoppus on a special recording of “December.” Most recently, Neck Deep released a cover of “Don’t Tell Me It’s Over.”
Perhaps the most iconic pop punk band of all time, Blink 182, continues to create music for a new generation of angsty teenagers with their latest release “Blame It On My Youth.” Blink 182 shows are always fascinating due to the diversity of fans all united by the love of one band. As the band’s sound has developed through the years, their set will definitely be unreal.
Lil Wayne has recently made a huge comeback with the release of Tha Carter V, but fans would’ve never expected that he would tour with Blink 182. Nonetheless, he is a powerful lyricist and storyteller, and deserves immense success through this tour.
CAN’T KICK UP THE ROOTS BY NECK DEEP
“Can’t Kick Up The Roots” was the first single released off of Neck Deep’s third album, Life’s Not Out To Get You. Originally planned to be titled “Summer Song,” this energizing track is reminiscent of childhood memories and encourages fans to simply enjoy life. The uplifting song is about being proud of where one is from, which is Wrexham, North Wales, for lead singer Ben Barlow.
ALL THE SMALL THINGS BY BLINK 182
“All The Small Things” was primarily written by former guitarist Tom DeLonge about his then girlfriend, intended to be “really catchy and basic”. It was the last song recorded for Blink 182’s third album, Enema of the State and was one of the three singles that launched the band into mainstream success. This song remains their most popular song to date.
6 FOOT 7 FOOT BY LIL WAYNE
“6 Foot 7 Foot” is considered one of Lil Wayne’s best songs lyrically. This track was the first single off of Tha Carter IV and has a relatively simple beat. The title could be a reference to the House of Detention for Men, the oldest jail on Rikers Island, where each inmate’s cell is 6 feet by 7 feet by 8 feet.
STAY TOGETHER FOR THE KIDS BY BLINK 182
“Stay Together For The Kids” is an ode to children with divorced parents. Tom DeLonge wrote the song at the age of 18 on his driveway on the day his parents separated. The track encapsulates emotions beautifully and definitely resonates with a lot of people, which led to its immense success.
MONA LISA BY LIL WAYNE FT KENDRICK LAMAR
“Mona Lisa” from Tha Carter V debuted number 2 on the Billboard Hot 100. The title is a reference to Mona Lisa’s ambiguous smile, with the song telling the story of a woman who robs her boyfriend. Lil Wayne and Kendrick Lamar tell the two different perspectives of the narrative. This track is the third collaboration between the two rappers.
