Cigarettes After Sex perform San Diego's Viejas Arena during their 2024 North American Tour
Dream Pop group, Cigarettes After Sex, are currently on their North American tour. They are performing multiple concert dates in California in cities such as San Diego and Los Angeles. The artists performed at Viejas Arena, located at the University of San Diego, on Monday, October 7th. Upon arrival, lines wrapped around the music venue at the parking lots, merchandise booths, and at the entrance. The patrons were dressed in chic black attire from leather jackets, leather boots, and lace dresses. The theme of Cigarettes After Sex’ concerts and their visuals on social media is black and white.
Cigarettes After Sex’ music draws a youthful audience, many who are University of San Diego students and alumni. This may be due to their songs being featured on social media platforms such as TikTok, Instagram, and YouTube.
The doors at the Viejas arena opened at 6:30pm and Cigarettes After Sex kicked-off the show around 8:30pm. Before the concert, the mood was set with a cinematic playlist featuring songs by artists such as Francoise Hardy and The Doors. When Cigarettes After Sex began the show, the lights of the venue went dim as the artists walked onto the stage. They performed behind a lightly sheer curtain that wrapped around the stage. The group performed fan favorite sets early in their set such as their song, ‘Apocalypse.’
During their song performances, they paired their music with tantalizing background visuals from waterfalls to lit matches. The audience members sang along to the live performances of songs such as ‘John Wayne,’ ‘Heavenly,’ ‘Sweet,’ and more! Lead singer, Greg Gonzalez, engaged the audience by performing guitar solos up close to the audience. He strolled strumming his guitar from both side stages and the main centered walkway. Gonzalez also handed his fans guitar picks and at the finale, the setlist. The audience were enamored by their show and focused their attention on the stage.
