King Gizzard and The Lizard Wizard tear the roof off of Republic New Orleans

Punk rock and neo-psychedelia clash beautifully in the magical wizard-y ways of King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard.  The Australian seven piece band is an absolute riot, and their shows are as well. At their sold out show at the Republic New Orleans, moshing was not only allowed but very encouraged. Their set was filled with shreddy guitar riffs solos and high caliber drum beats, not a person in the venue wasn’t banging their head to the music.

The balcony I was on felt like an amusement park ride, and down below looked like a herd of wild animals. King Gizzard and The Lizard Wizard came to be in 2012 after the release of their debut album “12 Bar Bruise”. The band releases full length records very often; in 2017 alone they released 5 albums ranging from nine tracks to thirteen. Each of them have that distinct King Gizz edge, yet each concentrate on different soundscapes and themes. King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard brings neo psychedelic punk rock to the next level, their sets are electrifying and powerful and sure not to disappoint.
