The Wombats, Weezer and the Pixies rock New Orleans’s Champion’s Square

The Wombats opened early in the night with Cheetah Tongue, the first track off of their fifth album “Beautiful People Will Ruin Your Life”, released earlier this year in February. It begins with a driving guitar riff and a hard hitting beat, their music resonated loudly in the urban outdoor venue. The British rockers formed in 2007 when they released two albums, and have been an indie pop-rock favorite since. The Wombats are supporting Weezer and The Pixies on the first leg of their 2018 tour. 

THE PIXIES

The Pixies’ set proved they haven’t lost what they had in the 80’s and 90’s. Their performance was fantastic, high energy when needed and slow and sentimental at other times. Black Francis’s raspy on-stage banter and guitar solos were far from lacking, and they played a great mix of old Pixies and new Pixies. There wasn’t a dull moment of the set. 

WEEZER

Weezer closed the night out with an eclectic show. Their set consisted mostly of their older music, which was surprising, but definitely not disappointing. Their set opened up with their classic track Buddy Holly, and Weezer is one of those bands that sound better live, without straying far from their original recordings. The fact that their sound hasn’t changed in all of these years is refreshing to see in a band; Weezer’s roots are so well preserved and they really bring that to the stage when they perform live.
