Regina Spektor's 'Songs' Journey at Belasco in Los Angeles
Singer-Songwriter, Regina Spektor, is currently on her ‘Songs (and other songs)’ tour. She started the tour in December 2024 in Brookyln, New York. The tour began this year in Los Angeles, California on February 22nd and 23rd at the Belasco Theater, which both dates were sold-out. The tour will continue in Chicago this Spring, Spektor will be performing three concert dates at Thalia Hall in Chicago, Illinois on March 2nd, 3rd, and 4th. Patrons can expect to enjoy a cute and comedic evening filled with funny lyrics and songs performed acoustically by Regina Spektor.
The first floor of the Belasco was filled with dedicated music fans, who were facing the stage eager to watch the performance. Spektor stepped onto the stage after 8:00 pm and the audience cheer and applauded. She expressed her gratitude to her fans, and she provided sympathy for the Los Angeles community due to the wildfires.
She warned the audience in advance that her album ‘Songs’ was weird. She joked that ‘baby Regina’ made weird choruses and words. She performed songs such as ‘Reading Time with Pickle,’ which she commented might be the saddest song she had written.
Spektor deep dived into older songs such as ‘Oedipus,’ and commented that she wanted to ask the audience to vote which songs were weirder. She let the audience into her personal life from stories from her youth and her meditation process. She shared a story of her first job that she worked with butterflies and was living on a hippie farm in Luck, Wisconsin. Spektor provided a story of a scary incident at a bar helped her determine whether to continue to live a hippie life or live in New York City. She chose New York City.
The audience enjoyed the transition of Regina Spektor’s song performances and conversations, which made the show feel intimate despite the large audience. She sang renowned songs such as ‘Daniel Cowman,’ ‘Lacrimosa,’ and ‘Consequence of Sounds.’ She teased her sound engineer saying ‘Chris, you shouldn’t make it that dark or I will say weird things.’ She closed the night with the performances of the tracks, ‘Samson,’ and ‘Don't Leave Me (Ne me quitte pas),’ which the audience sang along to.
