Stereophonics Spring Tour
Stereophonics have been touring throughout various cities in Canada and the United States during their Spring Tour. The group began their tour on March 21st in Montreal and will be ending their tour on Friday, April 11th in Mexico City. They performed in Southern California on Tuesday, April 8th at the Wiltern in Los Angeles and Wednesday, April 9th at Humphreys by the Bay in San Diego. The group will be releasing their thirteenth album ‘Make ’Em Laugh, Make ’Em Cry, Make ’Em Wait,’ on April 25th.
Upon arriving at the Wiltern, a line of music fans lined up outside of the entrance of the venue excited for their concert. Stereophonics began their set promptly around 9pm. They performed a variation of songs from their discography, from songs from albums such as ‘Graffiti on the Train,’ ‘You Gotta Go There to Come Back,’ and more! During their live performance, each band member highlighted their musical talents. During several of the song performances, the drummer intensified the show with dynamic drum solos, the guitar players demonstrated their gripping guitar skills, and one of the band members performed a riveting solo on the saxophone center stage.
For the live performance of their song, ‘Boy on a Bike,’ their crew brought out a small-scaled piano decorated with teacup lights, which set the mood for the upcoming song performance. Lead singer, Kelly Jones, introduced the song by mentioning how this song brought him many memories from his childhood. He quoted poetry by Robert Frost and then began playing on the piano keys.
Patrons enjoyed the mixture of songs from classic hits, new tracks, and deep cuts. The audience sang along to their performance of their iconic track, ‘Maybe Tomorrow.’ Kelly Jones asked if there were audience members from out of town and the crowd cheered. Jones teased the audience if anyone was checking into their hotels with a false name. He dedicated the next song performance of ‘Mr. and Mrs. Smith,’ to those who practice this method.
During an acoustic performance, he played on a ukele. He mentioned that he has been friends with bandmate, Richard Jones, since they were three years old. He commented how they buy each other instruments while they are on tour. Also, how it started when they toured with David Bowie during their 2004 tour. He provided history of their tour with David Bowie. He commented that Bowie was a gentleman, and he would ask them about their family and watch them perform during their soundchecks.
Kelly Jones kidded when David Bowie would watch their sets it made them slightly nervous, therefore they would perform shorter soundchecks, since they enjoy alternating guitars for each song. Jones mentioned how Bowie came up to them after one of their soundchecks and jested that, ‘You are on to something if you extended your songs.’ After the music interlude, they performed their beloved classic track, ‘I Wouldn’t Believe Your Radio.’
Stereophonics performed songs from their latest album release, such as their new song, ‘There's Always Gonna Be Something.’ They ended their monumental musical night with an encore which brought joy to their devoted audience. They performed a glorious finale with live performances of the songs ‘Mr. Writer,’ ‘Hurry Up and Wait,’ and ‘Dakota.’ Stereophonics’ live shows are an unforgettable musical experience filled with fascinating live music performances by highly talented musical artists. Their concerts are engaging, exceptional, and a must-see! They will continue their tour in Mexico City on Friday, April 11th.
