The Chainsmokers Bring Their World War Joy Tour with 5 Seconds of Summer to the Amway Center in Orlando, Florida

THE CHAINSMOKERS

EDM-pop pair, The Chainsmokers, put on an impressive performance that filled the Amway Arena in Orlando, Florida. When people look back on the 2010’s, their dance-floor beats and radio-ready hooks are sure to be one of the defining characteristics of this decade. With some next-level production, pyrotechnics, and a 5,000 pound globe of death; Alex Pall and Drew Taggart have energy of young performers with the touring experience and talent of musicians that have been doing this for decades.

LENNON STELLA

The night opened with Lennon Stella; a performer who once played “Maddie Jaymes” on TV’s Nashville. Growing as an artist with the release of her EP Love, Me; it is no wonder why The Chainsmokers chose to bring her on tour.  She is only 20 years old and is one of the most authentic performers in the game right now. She just released her newest single, Kissing Other People, and it is worth checking out!

5 SECONDS OF SUMMER

Following Lennon Stella was 5 Seconds of Summer, an Australian pop rock band formed in 2011. The group consists of lead vocalist Luke Hemmings, guitarist Michael Clifford, bassist Calum Hood, and drummer Ashton Irwin.  Earlier in 2019, they  released their single “Who Do You Love” which is a collaboration with the Chainsmokers. Opening with their hit “She Looks So Perfect” and performing a 16 song set; the band quickly moved from one song to another without much down time on stage. 5 Seconds of Summer did an incredible job of energizing the crowd for the set that was to come.

Opening with “Takeaway,” Alex Pall and Drew Taggart came out on stage holding lit torches which set the theme for their World War Joy tour. With a solid mixture of their own hits, covers, and live DJ mixes; there was something for every fan there. The stage featured a 60 foot custom triangular light structure and a walkway extending through the general admission section. Despite only having three people on stage, the Chainsmokers had enough stage presence to make the huge structure seem small in comparison. The first half of the show featured hits like “Roses” and “Everybody Hates Me” and a surprise dance break from two kids pulled from the audience.

Half way through the show, drummer Matt McGuire came forward on the stage and performed a drum solo over 40 feet in the air over the crowd. As if that were not impressive enough, he then performed an even more technical drum solo but with drumsticks that were literally on fire.

At the time, it felt impossible for the Chainsmokers to one up their fiery drum solo but it somehow become an even more impressive show. 5 Seconds of Summer returned to the stage to perform their collaborative song “Who Do You Love” which blew the studio version out of the water. Taggart later went to talk about working with Chris Martin on “Something Just like This” and how this crowd and the tour meant so much to him.  The second half of the set also saw 3 drive on stage and enter what they called a “globe of death.”  The show closed with their hit “Closer” that has over 1 billion streams on Spotify and the crowd went wild. Overall, it was an absolutely incredible show and a must-see for anyone who enjoys EDM or pop.

There are still over 15 stops left on the tour with a little over a month to see them! Check out their website at thechainsmokers.com for more information on dates, venues, and tickets!
