Underoath Set Personal Records with the Erase Me Tour
UNDEROATH
Hailing from Tampa, Florida, metalcore icons, Underoath, pulled out all the stops to make their visit to the Shrine LA one for the books. In addition to breathing new life into their music career through a rebirth process of refining, rebranding, and releasing a sixth studio album (Erase Me out April 6 via Fearless Records) Underoath blew away expectations with not only a new sound, but a new identity so to speak. Dropping their title as a Christian band and adding additional hints of pop influence to their latest tracks, the newly energized group set their sights on crafting what can only be described as a tour of massive proportions.
With a powerful setlist, fans were overjoyed to rock out to the band’s first new music in eight long years as well as experience a specially curated performance designed to highlight hits from each of Underoath’s past works. The collective of songs was, in fact, so monstrous a list that it’s full performance resulted in the longest tour set in Underoath history. And to add to the fun, the band even snuck in a cover of Nirvana’s “Heart-Shaped Box”, the first cover of Underoath’s touring career. Furthermore, with the floor shaking under the impact of a sea of head-banging fans, it came as little surprise when vocalist Spencer Chamberlain shouted to the packed Los Angeles venue that in all his years of touring, this stop may be his “favorite show ever played”. In other words, it was an overall exhilarating experience all around.
THE PLOT IN YOU
Joining Underoath on their groundbreaking Erase Me Tour were fellow post-hardcore superstars, Dance Gavin Dance, Crown the Empire, and The Plot in You, who, not to be outdone, all released catchy new material in 2018.
Kicking off the show as the first opener of the evening, Ohio quartet, The Plot in You set the tone for the night with an electric performance. Showcasing tracks off their fourth full length album, Dispose (released February 16), vocalist Landon Tewers captivated the crowd with music that resonated with both the metal-loving and the heavy emotional side of fans that left many cheering for more.
CROWN THE EMPIRE
Following this deep performance came Dallas’s Crown the Empire. Charged with enthusiasm and a fiesty sound, Andy Leo (Vocals) Brandon Hoover (Guitar), Hayden Tree (Bass), and Brent Taddie (Drums) clearly had no problem engaging the audience with their overall energy and exceptional music. Performing fan favorites in addition to their two latest singles, “20/20” and “what i am” (released July and September, 2018), the band provided a peak into what bodes well as a bright future and new album ahead.
DANCE GAVIN DANCE
Last but not least, it was the duty of final opening act, Dance Gavin Dance to sweep the crowd off their feet, literally. And as the Sacramento post-hardcore group took to the stage, it was only a matter of time before eager crowd surfers began to ride the wave of screaming fans and the venue came alive with a new burst of energy.
Coming in hot after the release of their eighth and most successful studio album to date (Artificial Selection released June 8) as well as an equally exciting Spring headlining tour, Jon Mess (unclean vocals), Tilian Pearson (clean vocals), Will Swan (guitar), Tim Feerick (bass), Matt Mingus (drums), and Andrew Wells (touring guitarist/backing vocalist) were clearly a favorite group of the night. And pulling tracks from their early classics to new hits such as “Midnight Crusade” and “Care”, fans were sure to have had the night of a lifetime.
