Barenaked Ladies. Guster, and Fastball 'Last Summer on Earth' Tour at the Greek Theatre
Fastball, Guster, and Barenaked Ladies are currently on their North American tour, ‘Last Summer on Earth.’ The groups made a tour stop at the Greek Theatre in Los Angeles, California on June 22nd. Fastball opened the show and performed classic tracks such as ‘The Way,’ ‘Out of My Head’, ‘I Will Never Let You Down’, and more! Guster’s performance followed. During the performance of their track, ‘Doin It By Myself,’ Lead Singer, Ryan Miller, walked throughout the venue and playfully interacted with audience members. The audience sang along to their performance of songs, ‘One Man Wrecking Machine,’ ‘Satellite,’ ‘Barrel of a Gun,’ and more.
The Barenaked Ladies headlined the Greek Theatre during their ‘Last Summer on Earth’ tour. The group joked with the audience that they could play songs off their new record instead of their ‘monster’ hits. Barenaked Ladies performed a blend of their classic songs, cover songs, and new songs off their 2023 album ‘In Flight.’ The group performed tributes to Brian Wilson by performing their tracks, ‘Brian Wilson’ with Congo instruments and a cover their song, ‘Love and Mercy.’ Lead singer, Ed Robertson, provided a history their group’s background and mentioned that they formed their group in 1988. Also, the group made their 1998 ‘Stunt’ record in Los Angeles and that they stayed in the Oakwood apartments and would walk to the studio.
Barenaked Ladies continued to share stories with the audience. Kevin Hearn mentioned that he saw Joni Mitchell and Herbie Hancock perform at the Greek Theatre. He dreamt that one day they would play this venue and their dreams manifested. The group commented that they attended OMD’s sold-out concert the night before at the Greek Theatre. The group informed the audience that they performed with the group, OMD, 10 years ago and the OMD band members left a sweet note for Barenaked Ladies in their dressing room.
Lead singer, Ed Robertson, mentioned that he played a Cleveland show with OMD and the band members, Paul Humphreys and Andy McCluskey, watched them from the venue’s soundboard. Robertson playfully informed the audience that the band members were at the soundboard, and they loved selfies. The artists were swarmed by the audience during the show and they had pictures with fans with a great smile and were laughing.
Barenaked Ladies’ band member, Kevin Hearn, shared additional fun moments from their time in Los Angeles. He mentioned that on the day of their show at the Greek Theatre, he stumbled upon the Hollywood sign by accident. He wanted to document the memory, but his phone died. Barenaked Ladies continued the show by performing their memorable track, the theme song from the television show, ‘The Big Bang Theory’. They mentioned that the group was asked to create a song for the television and changed their musical career. The group performed a finale of cover songs such as Chappell Roan’s ‘Pink Pony Club,’ and the audience danced and sang along to their various cover song performances.
