Max Frost shows Charlotte how to dance on his headlining tour
From touring with Twenty One Pilots on the Bandito tour, to announcing his album and tour, Gold Rush, Max Frost has had a busy year. This is not new to Frost. In 2013, he began releasing music on Soundcloud. He decided that he wanted to pursue music as a career, so he left school. Tragically, his guitar and hard drive with all of his music were stolen. This led to him losing motivation, until his song “White Lies” began blowing up on Soundcloud. Atlantic Records found him through this track, and the rest is history.
Frost’s inspiration stems from all different kinds of music. Some of his biggest inspirations are The Beatles, Frank Sinatra, Erykah Badu, D’angelo and MC Kydd. He melds these genres together perfectly, and produces catchy, complex songs. You may have heard some of these songs on your TV before. His song “Good Morning” was used on PepsiCo sparkling water and ESPN commercials. “White Lies” was used for a Beats commercial.
Last Thursday, we were lucky enough to see him perform one of his headlining shows at the Neighborhood Theatre in Charlotte, NC. Not only did we get the opportunity to see Frost, he introduced us to an amazing duo named Swells, who opened up the show.
SWELLS
Swells is a duo out of Austin, Texas, that consists of Taylor Baker and Drew Walker. They have a great dynamic and make exhilarating indie-pop music. When the duo broke into their opening song, the room was unsure of what to expect. The power of lead singer Baker’s voice, and Walker’s explosive trumpet solos pleasantly surprised the audience. Songs like their latest release, “Ramen” mesmerized the room. We got the opportunity to hear a few of their unreleased songs, and they announced that their debut album will be out soon. MAX FROST
To kick off his set, Frost ran onto the stage and applied his hairspray. He opened with his track “New Confessional.” His energy immediately filled the room as he covered ground on all ends of the stage. He followed this entrance with some of the songs from his most recent album, Gold Rush. He kept the energy high, getting up close and personal with the crowd. When he broke into the song “Money Problems,” the entire room sang along to the catchy chorus, repeating “I got money problems” over and over. Frost then slowed it down with his songs “Let Me Down Easy” and “Die Young.” He ended the show on a high note, applying more hairspray and starting his song “Good Morning.” He bounced around the entire stage and had everyone in the room moving along to the beat. His energy never faltered.
Frost proved to this Charlotte crowd that he definitely knows how to put on a show. Afterwards, fans lingered, still buzzing from the show. When they left, they were already ready to buy tickets for his next tour. If you asked anyone at the show, they would not hesitate to encourage you to catch Frost on tour.
