Wallows Gives Sold Out Charlotte Crowd a Night to Remember

Wallows sold out one of Charlotte’s most loved venues, the Underground within a few days, and the lucky fans who had the opportunity to attend the show did not leave disappointed. Wallows’ fans are amazingly passionate about the band, and this show truly showed it.

Wallows consists of Braeden Lemasters, Cole Preston, and Dylan Minnette. The band formed over a decade ago, but were not known as “Wallows” until 2017, releasing their beloved track, “Pleaser.” After the release of this song, things started snowballing. The band soon signed to Atlantic Records. They released their EP, Spring, in 2018, which includes one of their top songs, “These Days.” The group went on to release their debut album, Nothing Happens, in 2019, which includes hit single, “Are You Bored Yet?” featuring Clairo.

The Nothing Happens tour did not live up to its name, because a LOT happened. Not only did the tour sell out, they upgraded to bigger venues for some shows, and they sold out AGAIN. The band switched up the playlist at each show, so the fans had no clue what to expect. As soon as the intro to the first song, “Only Friend,” began, the room swelled with excitement. Along the barricade, excited fans sang along to the catchy instrumental before the vocals even began. They followed up “Only Friend,” with their first release, “Pleaser,” and this was by far the most energy the room held during the show. The crowd was so loud that it felt like every single person in the room had been singing along at the top of their lungs.

The band surprised the room by ending their song “Sun Tan,” with a rendition of “I Found a Way,” by Drake Bell (yes, the Drake and Josh theme song). They went on to sing a few songs from their debut album, following them up with a surprise. The day of the show happened to be their sound/lighting engineer, Landon’s, birthday. Minnette drew attention to the back of the room, and announced he would be switching places with Landon so we could all serenade him with “Happy Birthday.” Minnette manned the lights while Landon took the stage, and the room filled with birthday wishes. It was a moment that was extremely special for the Charlotte crowd.

As the night came to an end, the memorable first notes to the band’s hit, “Are You Bored Yet?” started to play. The crowd erupted in cheers and began singing every word. Lemasters then transitioned into the acoustic version of their song “1980s Horror Film,” after seeing a tweet that they performed it last time they were in North Carolina. The band then exited the stage, thanking the crowd for coming, but it was not over yet. Fans began demanding an encore, many fans chanting the title of their catchy song, “Scrawny.” The group came back out and shouted “This song is called Scrawny Motherf****r!” and the energy of the room hit an all time high once again. It seemed like everyone was jumping and shouting the lyrics passionately. Overall, Wallows gave Charlotte, North Carolina, a night to remember. The stage presence of the band was huge, and the dedicated fans were incredibly loud. The band put on a must see performance, and anyone who listens to alternative music should give Wallows a listen!
