Hella Mega Tour brings the West Coast to the East Coast at Miami's Hard Rock Stadium with performances by The Interrupters, Weezer, Fall Out Boy, and Green Day

The long awaited Hella Mega Tour was announced on September 10th, 2019 which included March through August 2020 as the original tour dates but was postponed due to the pandemic. However, after a two-year break from tour, the bands finally returned to the Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens, Florida. Hella Mega Tour featured live performances by The Interrupters, Weezer, Fall Out Boy, and Green Day. As the stadium doors opened, the venue began to fill their seating and sounds of loud chatter filled the stadium as concertgoers began discussing how long it’s been since they’ve attended to a concert.

THE INTERRUPTERS

The Interrupters, Los Angeles Ska-Punk group, kicked-off the evening. Lead vocalist, Aimee Interrupter took the stage wearing a Clash t-shirt and leather jacket. She was filled with enticing energy that elevated the audience’s mood. You could tell just how ecstatic she was to be in front of a crowd again. The Interrupters have released three albums since forming in 2014. The Interrupters performed “She’s Kerosene,” a fan favorite and along with an amazing cover of Billie Eilish’s “Bad Guy” with a ska twist.

WEEZER

Pastel tones lit up the stage and “ Weezer” was written across the center of the group’s bass drums. The band strolled on stage and opened with the track “Hero.” Lead singer, Rivers Cuomo’s onstage attired included knee-high socks and a yellow headband to pair with his retro mustache and mullet look. “Beverly Hills” was song number three on the setlist and the start of all of the nostalgia setting in for the evening. It was reminiscent of the 2007 version of you laying in your room and having your I-Pod Nano on shuffle and embracing all the feels from Weezer’s Blue and Green albums..

FALL OUT BOY

A dark and omniscient stage layout was setup for Fall Out Boy’s performance. The audience’s impatience grew for their childhood dreams of witnessing Pete Wentz on stage finally came true. The group opened their set with their track “The Phoenix” from their “Save Rock and Roll” album released in 2013. They then transitioned to their popular track, “Sugar, We’re Going Down,” which caused the audience to fall into a fanatical uproar. Fans shouted and sang to the song lyrics. Bassist, Pete Wentz, surprised the crowd with his musical flamethrower as he continuously shot gigantic flames from the neck of his bass guitar. Throughout Fall Out Boy’s set, they performed fan favorites such as tracks: “Uma Therman,” “Thnks Fr Th Mmrs,” “Dance Dance” and “Centuries.”

GREEN DAY

The audience was antsy during the intermission and sang along to Queen’s Bohemian Rhapsody. The stadium was at capacity when Green Day was set to go on stage. Fans erupted into a frenzy as a giant pink bunny wearing a vest ran around the stage. The Green Day mascot playfully interacted with the crowd. Their performance started as “American Idiot” began to play and lead singer, Billie Joe Armstrong walked unto the stage. Their live set included song performances from albums such as “Dookie,” “American Idiot,” and “21st Century Breakdown.” There were a few memorable moments in the evening when it started to rain just as “Wake Me Up When September Ends” was performed and “Here Comes The Rain Again” synchronized perfectly with the impromptu weather.

The California Rock group has been together since 1987 and continues to release new music. Green Day performed their latest music, “Pollyanna,” which was released this year in May which potentially hinted to a new album to be released in the future. Billie Armstrong was keen on making sure fans were making as much noise as possible, especially when he asked for someone in the crowd  to join him on stage as long as they knew how to play guitar. An audience member made their way onto the stage and blew everyone away with his dynamic guitar skills. It was seemed as the duo had been practicing together for years. Green Day ended the show with “Good Riddance (Time of Your Life)” while pyrotechnics went off to set the perfect closing to the evening.
